The
Blood and Tissue Bank of Barcelona (BST), which stands out as one of the most sustainable buildings in Europe, has been selected for the
Sustainable Energy Europe Awards 2011. The BST is committed to the use of
air conditioners that allow natural cooling with air from the outside and the addition of
heat exchangers that can recover 100% of the heat emanating from the building air exchange.
Heat exchanger gaskets, such as those that
Laygo Gaskets has been making during the last 25 years, are an essential part of
cooling devices, air conditioning, and energy production.
The BST is located in 22@ neighborhood, worth 35 million €, and opened in July 2010. From an environmental point of view, the BTB has a "global concept" that facilitates high energy efficiency, which translates into savings of 87% of the CO2 emissions of conventional buildings.
